The short answer: the xTool F2 Ultra is worth it if metal is the business and colour marking on stainless is something you can charge for, or if you need to cut 2 mm brass and stainless in house. For mixed shops that only need black marks on metal, the F1 Ultra does that for much less.

How this review was put together: from the manufacturer’s documentation and support pages, the live Amazon listing and repeated owner reports. This machine has not been bench-tested for this site; the sources are listed at the end of the page.

What it is

A dual-source galvo machine, like the F1 Ultra, with both sources scaled up: a 60 W MOPA fiber laser and a 40 W blue diode, with speeds quoted up to 15,000 mm/s. MOPA means the pulse is adjustable; xTool’s Q&A gives pulse widths from 2 to 500 ns and frequencies from 30 to 4,000 kHz. That control is what grows the thin oxide layers that show as colour on stainless steel, titanium and copper. The field is 220 × 220 mm, or 220 × 500 mm with the Auto Streamline conveyor, and two 48 MP cameras handle placement.

Who it is for, and who should skip it

Knife makers, jewellers, promotional-goods shops and anyone selling engraved metal at volume. If you mainly need black marks on tags and tumblers, read the F1 Ultra review first: the extra money here buys colour, depth and cutting, not better black marks.

What it does well

Limits xTool lists itself

Fumes and ventilation

The F2 Ultra has its own exhaust fan, which xTool says must never be rinsed with water. A desktop smoke purifier can be fitted with a flange adapter, but xTool says desktop purifiers do not work with the machine’s linked mode and recommends its SafetyPro AP2 purifier instead; the IF2 inline fan is the supported option for ducting outside. Colour marking and deep engraving on metal throw fine particulate, so do not run this without one of those routes.

Setup and time to the first job

The listing gives the machine as 67.9 pounds. xTool’s support page for the F2 Ultra has an unboxing and first-use video and a procedure for aligning the infrared and blue lasers, which is worth running before production work. Wi-Fi supports both 2.4 and 5 GHz, and xTool says USB and Wi-Fi perform the same unless the Wi-Fi itself is unstable. By default the machine sleeps after 10 minutes idle; that can be switched off.

Software and support

xTool Studio and Atomm run on computers. For most of its life the F2 Ultra did not work with LightBurn at all. xTool’s Q&A, updated in October 2026, now says it supports LightBurn version 2.2.0 or later. If LightBurn is central to your workflow, update first and test the features you rely on before taking production orders. Support runs through the same channels for every xTool machine: email to support@xtool.com, a ticket form on xTool’s support site that promises a reply within one business day, a US phone line and live chat.

Warranty and returns

xTool’s standard warranty is 12 months, as for its other machines; cables and accessories follow the usual rule of replacement only if damaged on arrival. xTool sells a paid extension called xToolCare, but only with machines bought from xtool.com, so a machine bought on Amazon stays on the standard terms.

The Amazon listing is sold by xTool’s official store and ships from Amazon, so Amazon’s returns rules apply. Most items can go back within 30 days of delivery, but large items can carry exceptions, so read the return line on the listing before ordering and keep the packaging until you have run a few real jobs.

Noise and space

The noise comes from the exhaust fan and your extraction; no decibel figure is published. The footprint is compact, but give it a bench that does not flex, room at the side for the conveyor if you add it, and a short duct run.

Running costs and consumables

There is no tube. Keep the field lens clean, expect to service or replace the exhaust fan module over time (xTool sells it as a part), and budget filters if you run a purifier. Colour work uses extra test material while you build a colour matrix for each new metal; the preset files shorten that, but do not remove it.

Is the xTool F2 Ultra worth it?

For a metal shop that will invoice for colour or needs thin-metal cutting, yes; nothing else in this ranking does both. For everyone else it is more machine than the job needs. The F1 Ultra vs F2 Ultra comparison sets out the difference line by line. Make sure you are buying this model and not the F2 Ultra UV, which is a different machine with a different source.

Questions people also ask

Does the xTool F2 Ultra work with LightBurn?

xTool's Q&A, updated in October 2026, says yes from LightBurn 2.2.0. Earlier LightBurn versions do not work with it, so update first and test.

How thick can the xTool F2 Ultra cut?

xTool lists 2 mm stainless steel and brass, 1 mm aluminium, 20 mm acrylic and 23 mm wood for the dual-laser model.

Is the F2 Ultra the same as the F2 Ultra UV?

No. The UV model is a different machine built around an ultraviolet source. This review covers the 60 W MOPA plus 40 W diode version.

Can the F2 Ultra colour engrave and emboss in one job?

No. xTool says you choose either colour engraving or relief engraving for a job, not both at once.
